Asahi Beverages opens new distribution centre at Heathwood
Asahi Beverages officially opened its state-of-the-art distribution centre at 14 Seeana Place in the Heathwood Logistics Estate.
The Heathwood facility represents a significant investment by Asahi in south-east Queensland and is the hub for distribution of the company’s extensive range of alcohol and non-alcohol products.
In opening the site, Lord Mayor of Brisbane Graham Quirk said the official opening signalled the beginning of Asahi’s long-term future in Brisbane.
“Brisbane is a place where market-leading and innovative businesses can thrive, and I’m certain Asahi will feel at home in our New World City,” Cr Quirk said.
“Growing Brisbane’s food and beverage industry is a priority of the Brisbane 2022 New World City Action Plan, and Asahi Beverages’ presence is a key outcome of the city’s efforts.
“Asahi’s investment in our city is a vote of confidence in Brisbane’s attractiveness as a premier investment destination in the Asia Pacific.”
Mr Peter Margin, Executive Chairman, Asahi Beverages said: “The opening of the Heathwood site is a special moment in the history of our company – it is the most significant investment we have made in warehousing and distribution in Australia in recent times.
“The Heathwood site, combined with our manufacturing sites at Goodna and Wulkuraka means that we are a strong employer and manufacturer in south east Queensland, with a combined investment of $91million in the past five years.
The company generates revenue of more than $325 million each year in Queensland, and directly provides almost 400 jobs in the State.”
Guests attending the opening from Asahi Beverage’s Japanese parent company included Mr Katsutoshi Takahashi, Senior Managing Director and Mr Atsushi Katsuki, Managing Director as well as members of the local Board.
“I would sincerely like to acknowledge the great support we have had from our parent company, who have continually supported our investment in manufacturing and supply chain here in Queensland.”
Mr Margin also thanked the City of Brisbane for their support and assistance and acknowledged the role of business partners in developing the site, including LOGOS (the owner and developer of the Heathwood Logistics Estate), Dematic (automation) and FDC (construction).
